Martin Specialist

Store Manager: Inoue

Born in Tokyo, raised in Osaka
After graduating from college, I initially took a job at a food manufacturer,
but driven by a strong desire to be involved in music, I chose a career in musical instrument sales.
The acoustic guitar is a wonderful instrument that enriches not only songs but also the simple moments of everyday life.
The songs you played back then, the times you sang together—these moments are etched firmly in your memory.
Among all brands, I believe Martin is the one that has delivered those moments to people all over the world.
With a long and storied history, there is a constant stream of discoveries to be made in its construction and the brand’s journey.
While it commands an overwhelming presence as a “tool,”
its ability to delight us in other ways is surely a charm unique to Martin.

The History and Appeal of Martin

Within the limited realm of acoustic guitars, countless people have been captivated by Martin’s sound and design, recognizing its value and fostering a rich culture.
The brand’s journey itself is passed down as a story of something truly special.

Tracing Martin’s Great History | From the Early Days to the Present

Martin’s journey began in 1833 when C.F. Martin I, who had trained under the master luthier Stauffer, emigrated from Germany to the United States. In the 1840s, he established the X-bracing system and promoted the standardization of body sizes. In the 1910s, he created the Dreadnought, and in the 1930s, he introduced the 14th-fret joint. These innovations became the foundation not only for Martin but for many other brands as well, and they continue to be passed down today as traditions built over many years.

Why does Martin continue to captivate people?

The reason Martin continues to captivate people lies in the craftsmen’s masterful skills and the traditions and evolution cultivated over its long history. This ethos has been passed down across generations, inspiring not only the makers but also those who hold the instruments to take a deep interest in their construction and specifications—even to the point of wanting to study them. As symbolized by the Japanese folk music scene of the 1970s, a unique culture has often flourished alongside the musicians, and the brand continues to garner strong support in today’s music scene.

This is Martin! Must-Know Signature Models and Their Features

The D-45 was introduced in 1933 as the top-of-the-line Dreadnought model.Although production was suspended in 1942, it was revived in 1968 and has since established an unshakable position as Martin’s flagship model. The presence and tone created by its carefully selected woods and dazzling ornamentation make it the very embodiment of the ideal acoustic guitar. While everyone may envision the sound of the D-45 differently, that sense of longing surely lives on in everyone’s heart.
