Saxophone Purchase Examples
Okubo GakkiHere are some of our latest purchase examples.
March 18, 2025
Brands we buy
Okinawagisawa S-99BL, manufactured in 1993.
Purchase price
380,000 yen
Comment from the person in charge
"Saxophones with a black lacquer finish tend to be difficult to sell because they are selective in terms of the situation and the player, and therefore generally tend to have a lower appraisal value. However, at our shop, it's the opposite. We have given it the highest possible value for its rarity and individuality."
January 10, 2025
Brands we buy
YAMAHA YAS-62 Made in 2016
Purchase price
165,000 yen
Comment from the person in charge
"Yamaha's 62 series alto saxophones have been in production for over 40 years, from the first model to the latest, so the appraisal value varies depending on the year and condition. However, we are now able to purchase them at a significantly higher price than a few years ago. This appraisal value also exceeds the used selling price from 10 years ago."
November 21, 2024
Brands we buy
Selmer Paris SERIE II, manufactured in 1991.
Purchase price
515,000 yen
Comment from the person in charge
"The Selmer Saxophone's classic Series 2, which has been produced for over 40 years, underwent repeated minor changes, resulting in different characteristics depending on the year of manufacture. Although it required significant adjustments, we were able to fully appreciate the potential of this particular product from this era."
April 17, 2025
Brands we buy
CGCONN 10M, manufactured in 1936.
Purchase price
580,000 yen
Comment from the person in charge
"While Selmer dominates the vintage saxophone market, our shop also focuses on selling vintage saxophones from other brands. Among them, CGCONN tenor saxophones are rare, and those in particularly good condition are especially hard to find. We purchased this one from another shop a few years ago at the price it was originally purchased for."
July 30, 2024
Brands we buy
WOODSTONE WST-AF, manufactured in 2012.
Purchase price
220,000 yen
Comment from the person in charge
"WOODSTONE saxophones are a brand that has significantly raised the bar for Asian-made saxophones through their solid design and rigorous production control. While it required an overhaul, it had no major accident history. We purchased it as a trade-in for a vintage saxophone purchased from our inventory."
May 3, 2024
Brands we buy
Selmer Paris MARK VII made in 1975
Purchase price
490,000 yen
Comment from the person in charge
"Previously, Selmer's MARK VII (Seven) was generally bought back for less than half the price of the MARK VI (Six), but at our store, we buy back the Seven at a high price. The discoloration of the lacquer finish is not a negative point, but rather a positive one, adding to its character!"
March 4, 2025
Brands we buy
Buffet Crampon S-1 Made in 1987
Purchase price
220,000 yen
Comment from the person in charge
"Buffet Crampon, a name known to everyone in the clarinet world, is less well-known in the saxophone world, but they also produce excellent instruments. Although it was nearly 40 years old and the pads and corks needed replacing, the body itself was undamaged, suggesting it had been well cared for."
July 28, 2023
Brands we buy
A. Selmer MARK VI Made in 1963
Purchase price
1,070,000 yen
Comment from the person in charge
"Among vintage saxophones, A. Selmer (American Selmer) is experiencing a rapid surge in market price. The owner of this particular saxophone acquired it about 15 years ago, and we purchased it for the original purchase price plus 200,000 yen."

Mr./Ms. B from Kyoto Prefecture
"30 years ago, with my first bonus"NewPurchase. I was transferred in my third year at the company. I had to leave the orchestra I belonged to, and I stopped playing music altogether. This time, I consulted them hoping to use the funds to buy an instrument for my son, who plays the trumpet in a brass band. I had heard that instrument prices had gone up, but I never expected them to buy it back for so close to the original purchase price. Thanks to them, my son was able to get a significantly higher-grade trumpet than he had originally planned.

Mr./Ms. K from Tokyo
"I've loved jazz since my student days, and I'm especially a big fan of Charlie Parker. I heard it was the model Parker used, so I got it five years ago. However, it was different from the Selmer I usually use, and I couldn't handle it, so I decided to sell it. But other shops refused to buy it, saying they wouldn't buy vintage saxophones unless the neck was original, so I was at a loss."Okubo Gakki"Then they showed interest, saying the neck was unusual, and bought it from me."

Mr./Ms. Y from Saitama Prefecture
"A fellow musician I'd played with for a long time passed away, and his family asked me to sell his instrument. Of course, I'd like to get the highest price possible, but the family also wanted it to be used properly, so I decided to look for a specialist shop that could properly repair and adjust it. I went to several places, but the purchase prices were all pretty much the same. I decided to sell to this one because they had the best service."

Selmer Paris Tenor Saxophone
Purchase price

Mr./Ms. S from Okayama Prefecture
"I really liked it when I tried it out and decided to buy it, but when I tried it in my usual live performances, it felt different. It was an expensive purchase, so I tried my best to adapt to the instrument, but I couldn't shake off that feeling, so I decided to consult with them. I knew that I couldn't return it since more than six months had passed, but they actually took it back for a price close to the purchase price."

Frequently Asked Questions about Saxophones
Frequently asked questions from our customers
Q1. I have an old vintage saxophone, but does it still have value even if it looks worn out?
A1. Yes, some models are very valuable. In particular, Selmer's Mark VI can fetch a high price even if the lacquer is peeling. Don't judge it by its appearance alone; please contact us for a consultation.
Q2. I've replaced the original neck with a custom one. How will this affect the appraisal?
A2. We will carefully evaluate the value of each part, including the main unit. Popular custom necks may receive a higher valuation, so if you have the original neck, please be sure to bring it along.
Q3. Does the presence or absence of "engravings" on the bell affect the appraisal value?
A3. Yes, it does have an impact. Even within the same model, pieces with beautiful hand-carved details are more popular, and this is an important factor that increases the appraisal value.
Q4. I haven't used it for many years, so the pads are in poor condition and it's difficult to produce sound. Can you buy it?
A4. Yes, that's perfectly fine. Pads are consumables, so deterioration is to be expected. Our repair team will assess the item with the assumption that it will need replacing, so please bring it in as is.
Q5. Will I get a higher price if I have my motorcycle overhauled (overall adjusted) before selling it?
A5. No, that's not necessary. It's rare for the appraisal value to increase by more than the cost of repairs you would have had done. We handle the maintenance, so it's more advantageous for you to sell it to us as is.
Q6. Is the appraisal free?
A6. Yes, the appraisal is completely free. You can also cancel after the appraisal.
Q7. Can you buy old musical instruments?
A7. We will buy any instrument in good condition, regardless of its year of manufacture.
Q8. Can you buy my car even if it doesn't come with any accessories?
A8. We can still purchase your item even without accessories, but this may affect the appraisal value.
Q.9 What are the service areas for on-site purchases?
A9. We primarily serve the Kanto area, but depending on the circumstances, we can travel to locations from Hokkaido to Okinawa, and even overseas. Travel expenses are free.
Q10. What are the maximum and minimum buyback prices?
A10. If you send us details and images of your instrument in advance, we can provide you with an estimated quote.
Q11. It's broken, so (even if it's for 0 yen), will you take it off my hands?
A11. Please provide details about the instrument so we can let you know if we can pick it up.
Q12: Is a reservation required?
A12: It's not necessary. Anytime during business hours is fine.
