Okubo GakkiIntroducing our latest purchase examples

March 18, 2025
Brands We Buy
Yanagisawa S-99BL 1993 model
Purchase Price
¥380,000
Staff Comment
"Black lacquer finish saxophones tend to be less valued in appraisals because they take time to find buyers, as they are selective about situations and players. However, at our store, it's quite the opposite. We have maximized the appraisal value for their rarity and individuality."

January 10, 2025
Brands We Buy
YAMAHA YAS-62 2016 model
Purchase Price
¥165,000
Staff Comment
Yamaha's Alto Saxophone 62 Series has been manufactured for over 40 years, from the first generation to the latest model. While appraisal values vary depending on the age and condition of the instrument, we are currently purchasing them at significantly higher prices than just a few years ago. The appraisal value for this particular instrument has even surpassed the used market price from 10 years ago.

November 21, 2024
Brands We Buy
Selmer Paris SERIE II 1991 model
Purchase Price
¥515,000
Staff Comment
The Selmer Saxophone Standard Series 2, produced for over 40 years, has undergone repeated minor modifications, resulting in distinct characteristics depending on the year. Although it required significant adjustments, we fully recognized the potential unique to instruments of this era.

April 17, 2025
Brands We Buy
C.G.CONN 10M, 1936 model
Purchase Price
¥580,000
Staff Comment
The vintage saxophone market is dominated by Selmer, but our shop also focuses on selling vintage saxophones from other brands. Among these, C.G. CONN tenor saxophones are particularly scarce, and those in especially good condition are rare. We purchased this one at the price it was bought several years ago at another shop.

July 30, 2024
Brands We Buy
WOODSTONE WST-AF 2012 model
Purchase Price
¥220,000
Staff Comment
WOODSTONE saxophones are a brand that has significantly elevated the quality of Asian-made saxophones through solid design and strict production control. While it required an overhaul, it had no major accident history. We purchased it as a trade-in for a vintage saxophone purchased from our store.

May 3, 2024
Brands We Buy
Selmer Paris MARK VII 1975 model
Purchase Price
¥490,000
Staff Comment
In the past, Selmer's Mark VII (Seven) typically sold for less than half the price of the Mark VI (Six). However, at our shop, we offer high prices for the Seven as well. We consider the discoloration of the lacquer finish not a negative, but a plus—it adds character and style!

March 4, 2025
Brands We Buy
Buffet Crampon S-1 1987 model
Purchase Price
¥220,000
Staff Comment
Buffet Crampon, a name unknown to no clarinetist, produces excellent instruments for saxophone as well, though they remain a lesser-known brand in that field. Nearly 40 years had passed, so the pads and cork needed replacing, but the body showed no damage, clearly indicating it had been well cared for.

July 28, 2023
Brands We Buy
A. Selmer MARK VI 1963 model
Purchase Price
¥1,070,000
Staff Comment
Among vintage saxophones, A. Selmer American Selmer has seen a particularly rapid surge in market value. The owner had acquired this instrument about 15 years ago, and we purchased it for ¥200,000 above the original purchase price.

Customer Feedback

Testimonials from customers who have actually used our service

Kyoto Prefecture, Mr./Ms. B
"Thirty years ago, with my first bonus..."NewPurchase. Transferred after three years at the company. I had to leave the orchestra I belonged to and ended up stepping away from playing altogether. This time, I consulted them hoping the funds could go toward buying an instrument for my son, who plays trumpet in the school band. I'd heard instrument prices were rising, but I never imagined they'd buy it back for a price close to what I originally paid. Thanks to that, my son's trumpet ended up being a significant upgrade from what we'd initially planned.

I've loved jazz since my student days, and I'm a huge fan of Charlie Parker in particular. When I heard this was Parker's favorite model, I bought it five years ago. However, it handled differently from my usual Selmer, and I couldn't get the hang of it, so I decided to sell it. But other shops refused to buy vintage saxophones unless the neck was original, leaving me at a loss.Okubo Gakki"Well, the neck is quite rare, isn't it?" he showed interest and bought it from me.

Purchase Price

Saitama Prefecture, Mr./Ms. Y
A fellow musician I'd played with for many years passed away, and his family asked me to sell his instruments. Naturally, I'd prefer to get the highest price possible, but the family also wanted them to go to someone who would truly use them. So I decided to find a specialist shop that would properly service them. I visited several places, but the buyback prices were all pretty much the same. I chose to sell to the shop with the best service.

Mr./Ms. S, Okayama Prefecture
I fell in love with it during the trial and decided to buy it, but when I tried it out in my usual setting, it felt different. Since it was a big purchase, I tried hard to adjust to the instrument, but I couldn't shake that feeling, so I decided to consult them. I knew I couldn't return it after more than half a year, but they actually took it back for an amount close to the purchase price.

Frequently Asked Questions About Saxophones

Frequently Asked Questions from Customers

Q1. Is an old vintage saxophone still valuable even if it looks worn out?
A1. Yes, depending on the model, they can be very valuable. Particularly models like the Selmer Mark VI can command high appraisals even with peeling lacquer. Don't judge solely by appearance—please feel free to consult with us.

Q2. I've replaced the neck from the original part to a custom one. How will this affect the appraisal?
A2. We will thoroughly evaluate the value of both the main unit and any accessories. Popular custom necks may sometimes result in a higher appraisal, so if you have the original neck, please be sure to include it.

Q3. Does the presence or absence of "carvings" on the bell affect its appraisal value?
A3. Yes, it does. Even within the same model, pieces featuring beautiful hand-carved engravings are highly sought after, making them a key factor in increasing the appraisal value.

Q4. The pads are in poor condition and difficult to play because they haven't been used for many years. Can you still buy it?
A4. Yes, absolutely no problem. Tampons are consumables, so deterioration is to be expected. Our repair team will assess them with replacement in mind, so please bring them in as they are.

Q5. Will it sell for more if I have it overhauled (fully serviced) before selling?
A5. No, that is not necessary. It is rare for the appraisal value to exceed the cost of repairs you have already incurred. Since we handle maintenance in-house, selling the vehicle as-is is more advantageous for you.

Q6. Is the appraisal free?
A6. Yes, the appraisal is completely free of charge. You may also cancel after the appraisal.

Q7. Do you buy old instruments?
A7. We will purchase instruments in good condition regardless of their age.

Q8. Can you still buy it even if it doesn't come with accessories?
A8. We can purchase items without accessories, but this may affect the appraisal value.

Q.9 What areas do you cover for in-home appraisals?
A9. We primarily serve the Kanto region, but depending on the situation, we can travel from Hokkaido to Okinawa and even overseas. There is no charge for travel expenses.

Q10. Please tell me the maximum and minimum purchase prices.
A10. We can provide a rough estimate if you send us the instrument details and images in advance.

Q11. Can you take it back even if it's broken (even if it's free)?
A11. Please provide details about the instrument, and we can let you know if we can pick it up.

Q12: Do I need to make a reservation?
A12: No need. Anytime during business hours is fine.
