In Charge: Sano
My first encounter with BOSS was in the 1990s, when I was still a student. Up until then, I was a Yamaha fan and hadn’t paid much attention to BOSS. The first unit I bought was the HM-3.For me, who was hooked on heavy metal at the time, it was exactly the sound I was looking for. Its ease of use and familiarity were particularly outstanding, and I really loved how it rarely broke down no matter how much I kicked or dropped it. In particular, units made in Japan in the 1980s have earned the trust of pedal fans worldwide and remain highly sought-after collector’s items today. BOSS is a brand I highly recommend, even for beginners!

The History and Appeal of BOSS
Simple, Durable, and Accessible to Everyone Effector
From its inception in the 1970s to the present day, we explore the innovative technology and robust craftsmanship that have kept BOSS at the feet of guitarists around the world.
History | Tracing a Great Legacy | From the Early Days to the Present
Since its founding in 1973, BOSS has evolved alongside the evolution of music. In its early days, it supported musicians with user-friendly operation and rugged durability, and eventually, its legendary models became icons of music history that transcended genres. Even as times have changed, BOSS’s stance has remained unchanged. Its history, from the early days to the present, is a testament to that consistent commitment.
Appeal | Why Does BOSS Continue to Captivate Musicians?
It is because BOSS has done more than just create sound; it has supported the performance itself. Without drawing attention to itself, it operates quietly at the musician’s feet, faithfully translating the performer’s intent into sound. Even as eras and genres have changed, that commitment remains unchanged. Being a reliable tool. Being built to last. It is this legacy that continues to attract so many musicians today.
Features | The Essence of the BOSS Sound
The many legendary instruments created by BOSS have endured not because of trends, but because they are inseparable from music itself. The BOSS sound has resonated in countless performances, becoming a part of music history. Never overpowering, but always supporting the performance. It is this legacy—of continuously resonating with music right at your feet—that is the true essence of the BOSS sound.
How to Choose | From Your First Pedal to a Carefully Selected Masterpiece
For standard rock, go with the DS-1 (Distortion); for a modern, versatile distortion sound, choose the BD-2 (Overdrive); and for natural distortion suitable for pop and other genres, pick the SD-1 (Overdrive). Starting with these three models is a great place to begin.
If you want to add more spatial depth to your sound, adding the CE-5 or CH-1 (Chorus), or even the DD-8 (Delay) and RV-6 (Reverb), will further expand your sound-shaping possibilities.
