While natural finish is standard for Martin guitars, the Shade Top coloring was offered as an option starting around the 1930s.
This instrument is one D-45 ordered with the Shade finish.
While the hexagon inlays on the fingerboard typically use abalone shell, this instrument features white mother-of-pearl.
The combination of ebony and white gives it a chic impression.
A wiring retainer is visible near the right waist of the body interior.
This suggests that pickups were installed at some point in the past.
The neck heel shows no signs of an added endpin, preserving its original condition.
The endpin hole has not been enlarged; its diameter is 7.7mm, whereas this instrument's is 10mm, suggesting it has been enlarged.
However, since there are no signs of enlargement on the end block, we speculate this was likely done to ensure the strength of the end pin, rather than for the purpose of installing an output jack.

The expansive sustain and the lustrous resonance of each individual note are unique charms only achievable by the Martin D-45.
