[Condition]
The instrument saw only a short period of use and was stored in its case for many years. There is light lacquer discoloration in thin streaks on the bell, U-shaped tube, and neck area. The lacquer on the No. 2 tube (body) has generally changed to a slightly darker shade. There are no noticeable scratches from peeling lacquer or dents. Low E♭ key guard stand 1 spot has a hand-repaired straightening mark / on the joint ring. All keys disassembled, cleaned inside and out, all pads (genuine CHANU riveted metal resonators), corks, and felts replaced, and the playing action has been adjusted with a full overhaul.
[Features]
The early Super Action 80 (Series I), produced only for a short period from 1981 to 1985. Compared with the heavy, stable, resonant sound of the later Series II, this model emphasizes response speed.
The attack is crisp, and the sound rises the instant you take a breath. In a sense, it has a “quick-start” character, with a natural projection whether in ensemble or solo playing.
Most striking is its open, left-hand-register resonance. Structurally, a saxophone tends to sound spread out and thin in the band where the tone holes open more widely. However, this instrument does not lose density even in that range. The body is tight, and it projects while preserving the thickness of the core. That sense of stability is something that even among Series I, could be called outstanding quality.
This instrument is a later-period example imported to Japan in 1986, during the transition to Series II. Its usage history is brief, and its current condition, after a thorough overhaul, is extremely good.
A highly refined instrument that combines speed and density.
It is an existence worthy of a lifetime partner.
