[Features / Appeal]
Since the 1980s, Selmer's main alto saxophone lines have been the Super Action 80 and then the SERIE II. SERIE III was introduced as a new option with a different direction in that lineage.
Following soprano and tenor, the alto was introduced in 1999. It continued to be refined over more than 20 years, and production ended in October 2021.
Compared with the heavy, substantial feel and response of the SERIE II, the SERIE III is light, quick, and smooth. When you put air into it, it rings effortlessly, and the clear sound with defined overtones projects straight ahead. It is of course well suited to classical music, but it is also a character that is easy to fit into pop, fusion, and electric arrangements.
The neck is designed to be slightly longer than that of the SERIE II, so the mouthpiece should generally be inserted about 3 to 5 mm deeper. It also features a double C-sharp mechanism that stabilizes the open C-sharp pitch on the octave key, achieving excellent pitch balance.
This instrument has an impressive sound with a sparkling brilliance. While offering a light blowing feel, the tone does not spread, and each note is clearly articulated. The pitch is stable, so you can concentrate on playing without being distracted by unnecessary corrections.
Unlike the SERIE II, this is a light, modern Selmer. The SERIE III is a superb instrument that lets you fully enjoy its ease of playing and shimmering sound.
