🔽The Appeal of Headway!! ~Tracing the Journey of Master Craftsmen and Headway~
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Headway / 2001 HD-250
In 2001, shortly after the Headway workshop was relaunched, this HD-250 was crafted by Mr. Yasuo Momose himself.
“What is the very best guitar I can create under the Headway name?”
This instrument clearly reflects his commitment to answering that question head-on.
That dedication is immediately apparent when you look at the Mexican mother-of-pearl inlay that frames the body.
Rather than a uniformly white shell, it possesses a deep luster tinged with jade.
Each piece was selected, carved, and fitted while carefully checking the color and reflection of every single one.
You can truly feel the artisan’s skill and the passion poured into its creation.
There is a spot where that dedication and determination remain clearly visible.
The vertical “Headway” logo on the headstock.
This design is reminiscent of Martin’s top-of-the-line models and simultaneously underscores the special status of this model.
While vertical logos are now used on higher-end Headway models as well, this model was the first to feature it.

Hexagonal inlays on the ebony fingerboard and a bridge with a long saddle.
While it features details reminiscent of the D-45 from the 1930s and ’40s, it by no means merely replicates the past.
This becomes even clearer when examining its internal construction.
The aluminum channel truss rod, the number of crack-prevention ribs, and the position of the X-bracing.
Even when compared to the Martin D-45s from the ’80s and ’90s in our store, the design is different.
This is not a reissue, but rather the result of master luthier Yasuo Momose’s belief that “this is Headway’s finest guitar.”
And then there’s the sound.
To be honest, some people may have the impression that Japanese-made acoustic guitars sound a bit stiff.
I felt that way myself at first.
But with this HD-250, that preconception is shattered the moment you play it.
The rosewood produces deep bass tones, and the treble is brilliant yet smooth, without any harsh edges.
When you play chords, rather than the sound projecting forward, you get the sensation that the space itself is expanding.
This represents one of the pinnacles of craftsmanship that Yasuo Momose has achieved at Headway since its relaunch.
