Headway / 2001 HD-250
In 2001, shortly after the Headway workshop restarted operations, this HD-250 was crafted by Mr. Yasuo Momose himself.
"What would be the ultimate guitar I could create under the Headway name?"
This instrument clearly embodies his direct response to that question.
The Mexican mother-of-pearl inlay framing the body makes his vision immediately clear.

Not uniformly white mother-of-pearl, but a deep, jade-tinged luster.
Each piece was selected, carved, and fitted while carefully checking its hue and reflection.
The craftsman's skill and the passion poured into its creation are palpable.
That dedication and resolve remain intact in certain details.
The vertical "Headway" logo on the headstock.
This design evokes Martin's top-tier models while simultaneously signifying this model's special status.
While vertical logos are now used on higher-end Headway models, this model pioneered that approach.

Hexagon inlays on the ebony fingerboard, a bridge with a long saddle.
While it features details reminiscent of the 45 from the 1930s-40s, it never simply copies the past.
This becomes even clearer when examining its internal construction.
The aluminum channel truss rod, the number of crack-resistant braces, the position of the X-bracing.
Even compared to the Martin D-45s from the 80s and 90s in our shop, the design is different.
This isn't a reissue; it's the result of master craftsman Yasuo Momose declaring, "This is Headway's finest instrument."
And the sound.
To be honest, some may find Japanese-made acoustics somewhat stiff.
I myself felt that way initially.
But the moment you play this HD-250, that preconception vanishes.
The rosewood bass is deep, the treble brilliant yet never harsh.
When you play chords, it feels less like the sound projects forward and more like the space itself expands.
This represents one of the pinnacles Kyoji Momose achieved with Headway after its relaunch.
