YAMAHA / 1987 LS-50 Custom
In 1974, Yamaha unveiled its "L Series" lineup, which emphasized a higher-end focus.
The first model announced was the "L-31".
This model elevated the FG-2000 to a more luxurious level, and it led to the Custom series, which was released in 1975.
The "L" in the series name stands for "Luxury," and it represents the highest-grade models among the three series (FG/N/L) that were in the lineup at the time.
Furthermore, the four models in the L series that have been in the lineup since 1975 are known by the rather grandiose title of "The Four Heavenly Kings," and each of these four models has a distinctive and eye-catching design.
The guitar I'm introducing today is a 1987 LS-50 Custom.
Ten years after the birth of the L series in 1974, in 1985, a new L series was announced that further upgraded the know-how gained from manufacturing the L series.
The model names were categorized by shape, with LL/LD/LA being among the available options.
Considering that legendary guitar designer Terry Nakamoto was with Yamaha until 1988, this new L series can be considered his final lineup at Yamaha.
From the rosette and purfling to the headstock and fretboard, you can enjoy the intricate and beautiful craftsmanship, and the body shape gives the impression of being the closest to the later Terry's Terry "TJ" model.
The sound is significantly different from the Yamaha sound of the 1960s to the early 1980s.
It's simply beautiful and cohesive, and the muddiness in the sound when playing chords is incredibly minimal.
The well-balanced, spacious sound that extends endlessly will give you the feeling of playing a keyboard instrument.
