Explanation
"Want a distinctive guitar that embodies Fender's DNA?" "But a Strat or Telecaster feels too commonplace?" For those who think this way, there's a model you should know about—one that could be called Leo Fender's final legacy.
Its name: the MUSIC MAN "STINGRAY I." Music Man is the brand Leo Fender founded after leaving Fender, reuniting with like-minded partners. In 1976, he returned to craft this model—the guitar version of the stingray. While the stingray in Bass is famous, few know the stingray exists in guitar form. Precisely because of this, it's a piece that offers connoisseurs a sense of depth.
The Stingray lineup featured two fretboard radius options: I (12" radius) and II (7.25" radius). This particular model features humbucker pickups and, groundbreaking for its time, an active tone circuit. Controls are Volume/Treble/Bass from top to bottom. The lower switch toggles between Rear/Front/Mix/Phase, while a seesaw switch provides a Bright Boost, delivering an astonishingly diverse range of tones unheard of for the 70s.
While "70s ash + maple = hard sound" is a common perception, this Stingray freely adapts to both bright and warm tones through its treble and Bass adjustments. Moreover, it boasts exceptional playability thanks to its thin grip and narrow neck width.
Recommended for those seeking a hidden gem rooted in Fender's design philosophy, those looking to take on their first vintage piece, or those desiring a modern, clear-cut sound from humbuckers.
The Stingray, born from the second act of Fender's founder. It's not just a guitar; it embodies Leo Fender's very design philosophy. Experience its spirit, along with the essence of the 70s, firsthand. Add another Fender to your stage.
