"A rare specification produced in limited quantities over a two-year period."
The Hummingbird, a quintessential Gibson square-shoulder guitar, debuted in 1960 and has been loved by numerous artists, including Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones, for its iconic look. Its popularity far exceeds production capacity, and it's said that orders can't keep up with demand. This particular unit symbolizes that episode and is a Hummingbird with rare specifications.
- Beautifully shimmering figured maple
While the sides and back are typically made of mahogany, this particular instrument features maple with a beautiful figured grain. The background for using Maple is,The explosive success of the Hummingbird led to the release of the Dove (1962), which also featured a square shoulder. However, because the Dove was 35% more expensive than the Hummingbird, popularity remained focused on the Hummingbird even after 1962. There's an anecdote that Gibson, which was producing more Doves than it could sell, added Dove bodies to the Hummingbird line, which couldn't keep up with production, and ended up making long-scale Hummingbirds with maple bodies in 1962 and 1963.
The square-shouldered body, made of spruce, is painted in a cherry sunburst color, giving it a vibrant hue. It is extremely rare to find a specimen that retains such a vibrant cherry color even after more than 60 years; it's not something you come across often. And the combination of this body size and the long scale, which is not found in current models, is the secret to the dynamic and weighty bass tones it produces.
The pickguard features an engraved design of a hummingbird, symbolizing Hummingbird, sipping nectar from a flower, and the engraving is colored with yellow ink.
The fretboard is made of rosewood and features sparkling double parallelogram inlays. This inlay is on the top-of-the-line model.RecruitThe inlay is made of mother-of-pearl.
The bridge, like the fretboard, is made of rosewood, and a slightly angular design at the top of the upper belly is characteristic of models from around 1963. Furthermore, while this guitar originally comes with a ceramic adjustable saddle, this one has been replaced with a wooden adjustable saddle, and the bridge pin holes have been grooved to match the string gauge, possibly to adjust the string angle.
The neck is made of mahogany and features a thin neck shape, a characteristic that has been present since the 1960s. The nut width is approximately 42mm, allowing you to experience a natural grip.
The headstock is adorned with a modern pearl logo and a crown inlay. Just seeing this gives you the feeling that you own a high-end model.
The tuning machines have gold KULUSON DELUXE keystone knobs.RecruitIt is being done. The button on the second string is slightly indented due to heat from age, but tuning is not a problem.
It's rare to find a Hummingbird with such a vibrant reddish hue, but a Hummingbird with maple wood in addition to that is even rarer. With minimal damage, it's sure to continue entertaining us with its bright and powerful sound. Please experience this rare item for yourself.
