Gibson / 1951 J-50
Introduced in 1942 as the natural-finish version of the J-45,
this model went on to enjoy immense popularity thanks to its use by artists such as Bob Dylan and Davy Graham.
This particular instrument was produced in 1951, nine years after its debut.

The J-45, the quintessential round-shoulder model, was available only in sunburst colors at the time—the cherry sunburst didn’t debut until 1961. Thus, amidst a lineup that effectively consisted of just one color, the J-50 was produced as a round-shoulder model finished in natural. It features a spruce
top.
The sides and back are made of mahogany and are finished in a brown color to match the top.
The small pickguard has the same specifications as the J-45.
The rosewood fingerboard features dot position markers.
The mahogany neck has a shape with just the right thickness that fits comfortably in the hand.
The rosewood bridge at the upper belly is fitted with a long saddle, indicating that the basic specifications are similar to those of the J-45.
The headstock features a gold Gibson Modern Logo decal, and the bell-shaped truss rod cover is a single-piece design.
The tuning machines are unmarked triple Kluson sets, though the pegs themselves have been replaced.
While the J-45 is famous for its round shoulders, the J-50—with its fine-grained spruce and natural finish—possesses a distinct, understated charm of its own.

[Condition]
—Although it is over 70 years old, this guitar is in excellent condition.
- There is no muffled sound or buzzing, and it plays well.
- String action at the 12th fret: 2.5 mm on the 6th string side, 1.9 mm on the 1st string side.
- Saddle projection: approx. 1.5 mm to 2.5 mm
. - Two repaired
cracks on the right side of the back of the body. - The nut has been replaced
. - The top of the hard case has cracks in the wood due to age.
