S.Yairi / 1970s YD-304
This model from S.Yairi—a brand that remains immensely popular among fans even today and is highly regarded among Japanese-made acoustic guitars—features the finest-grade rosewood for the sides and back.
The top is made of spruce.
It has a honey-brown patina and checking that gives it the look of a vintage Martin.
The playwear that tells the story of its history is not a flaw; rather, it feels like a testament to the instrument’s legacy.
The back is a three-piece construction of laminated Jacaranda and maple.
By today’s standards, this is a truly luxurious combination.
Like the back, the sides of the body are also made of laminated rosewood.
The YD-304 is known for being used by Yosui Inoue during his debut days, including at live performances.
I’m sure there are still people today who look up to him, just as they did back then.
You can see that, unlike 1970s Martins, the neck does not feature an adjustable rod but instead has a steel truss rod installed.
It features a slightly thicker, rounded shape similar to Martins from the same era.
This guitar was crafted by Japanese artisans following these classic design principles.
In addition to the crisp, firm tone characteristic of Japanese-made instruments, the sturdy neck contributes to its appealing, resilient bass and bright, lively treble.
The attack is crisp, and when strumming chords with a softer pick, it produces a lovely, subtle tone.
