[ Features]
A Yamaha wide-bore tenor-bass trombone from the Xeno Series, featuring a traditional wrap design. While open-wrap configurations—which prioritize projection—are the mainstream choice among current tenor-bass trombones, there are still many players who prefer the moderate resistance and cohesive tone unique to the traditional wrap. The fact that the successor model, the YSL-882GII, remains in the lineup today attests to the enduring demand for this design.
The sound produced by the 8.5-inch, single-piece gold brass bell is characterized by a dense, resonant tone with a solid core. It offers moderate resistance when blowing, resulting in a well-defined, forward-projecting sound. It retains Yamaha’s signature stable intonation balance and smooth playability, making it a highly versatile model suitable for a wide range of settings, from wind bands and orchestras to ensembles.
While the exterior shows signs of use, the instrument has been fully serviced, including disassembly of the rotary valves, cleaning of the interior tubing, and replacement of soft parts. It functions well for performance. Especially in an era dominated by open-wrap designs, this instrument is highly recommended for those seeking the pleasant resistance of traditional wraps and a cohesive, well-rounded sound.
