[Features]
The YHR-87DBS is a limited edition 120th anniversary model, based on Yamaha’s custom full-double horn, the YHR-87D (1992–2014) (Bass), developed through careful specification review by Yamano Gakki Wind Crew and Yamaha’s technical team.
A major distinguishing feature of this instrument is the silver-plated bell and body, along with the gold-plated rotary caps. The silver plating adds density and cohesion to the tone, improving the dynamic range compared to the standard 87D. Furthermore, the gold plating on the rotary caps tightens the articulation and ensures a clear attack. It offers the stability needed to perform with confidence even in large orchestras.
In terms of playability, the fourth lever features an adjustable mechanism, and the finger hooks are movable, offering a practical design that easily adapts to hand size and playing style. It is easy to handle regardless of body type, and its comfort during extended performances is another major appeal.
Although manufactured in 2012, this instrument is in excellent condition and shows no signs of its age. It has undergone a full service, including disassembly and cleaning of the rotary valves, internal tube cleaning, and replacement of all rubber parts.
With the current successor model, the YHR-871D, priced at over 1 million yen, and even the mid-range YHR-671D now in the 800,000 yen range, the selling price of this limited-edition model—in excellent condition and fully serviced—represents a highly attractive value.
This instrument combines the playability of the 87D with a more defined core and presence. It is a full-double horn that offers both perfection and practicality, meticulously crafted down to the finest details by Yamano Gakki and Yamaha.
