YAMAHA / FG-2000, Manufactured in 1973
- A historic instrument that heralded the dawn of Yamaha’s high-end acoustic guitars

1973. It was an era when Japanese guitar craftsmen were burning with passion, determined not merely to follow global standards but to create them with their own hands.
Amid this fervor, the YAMAHA FG-2000 was born from the hands of a select group of artisans, led by the legendary Terry Nakamoto.
This guitar is not merely an old instrument.
It is a miraculous masterpiece that has absorbed the immense span of half a century, allowing the wood to transform into a perfect instrument.
- Stunning Artistry on the Back
In terms of appearance, the aura this guitar exudes is in a class of its own.
The top features a premium Ezo pine solid top that has aged to an amber hue over the years.
And the highlight is the three-piece back construction featuring rosewood and tiger-striped maple.
The undulating grain of the rosewood—a luxury unimaginable today—contrasts beautifully with the golden hue of the maple running down the center.
It’s as if a painting has been painted on the back of the guitar.
- Tones of glass and earth, born from half a century of aging
The moment you strum a chord, you’ll understand why this guitar is called a legend.
Immediately following the crisp, quick-attacking sound characteristic of Ezo pine, the deep, resonant bass produced by the Brazilian rosewood surges forward.
From the high frequencies that sparkle like shards of glass to the low frequencies that shake your very core, the breadth of its range and the richness of its harmonics possess a power so compelling that they captivate not only the player but everyone in the room.
This deep resonance cannot be achieved by simply listing technical specifications.
It is a realm reached only because, from 1973 to the present day, the instrument has been cherished, played, and continuously vibrated—to the point where every single cell of the wood has learned to resonate.
- The Masterpiece That Heralded the Dawn of the L Series
The success and know-how behind this FG-2000 paved the way for the L Series, which would later become a landmark in Japanese acoustic guitar history.
In other words, owning this guitar means possessing one of the most significant turning points in the history of Japanese guitar manufacturing.
You may be the next person to grip this neck and carve out a new chapter in history.
Here lies the pinnacle of Japanese vintage craftsmanship—a guitar worthy of accompanying you for a lifetime.
