Explanation
The Thunderbird IV: Unparalleled in both sound and style!
The Gibson Thunderbird was introduced in 1963. This distinctive body shape, which remains highly popular today, was designed by Raymond H. Dietrich, an automotive designer who had previously worked at Chrysler. In 1965, the design was modified to a "non-reverse body," but a few years later, it reverted to the "reverse body." Production was then discontinued in 1969. It was revived in 1976 as a model commemorating the 200th anniversary of the United States, and production continued until 1979, but it was discontinued once again. Then, starting in 1987, it evolved and transitioned into the current Thunderbird IV.
This 1991 Thunderbird features a through-neck construction using nine layers of mahogany and walnut, producing excellent long sustain, while the mahogany body lends rich depth to the low-midrange. It is characterized by a powerful, rounded low-midrange that truly lives up to the Thunderbird name. While it certainly isn’t an all-purpose instrument, its unique nuances when played with a pick and its overwhelming visual presence offer an irreplaceable, one-of-a-kind charm.
