This is a tape echo unit that recreates the sound of the 1960s tube-powered EchoPlex!
This model recreates the distinctive features of the legendary Maestro EchoPlex and was manufactured in the United States around the year 2000, when it was sold in Japan through major music stores.In addition to the sounds unique to tape echo—such as the subtle pitch variations (flutter) caused by tape speed irregularities and the distinctive lo-fi character (distortion and noise)—the rich, warm sound produced by the unit’s tube circuitry is exceptional.The input/output jacks and controls, from left to right, are the PLAYBACK jack (for the playback on/off switch), the ECHO OFF jack (for the echo on/off switch), BALANCE (for balancing the original sound and the echo),REPEAT (number of repeats), RECORD (power switch/recording level), INPUT jack, and OUTPUT jack; the slide-type movable head controls TIME (delay time adjustment—LONG on the left, SHORT on the right).(Due to design limitations, the slide-type movable head does not reach the 16th position. *The position shown in the image is the maximum.) The PLAYBACK function is a so-called "sound-on-sound" feature, allowing you to layer additional plays over the recorded sound (though the playback timing is several minutes later, so it’s actually difficult to master…).Honestly, it has some noise and isn’t very user-friendly, but it’s a valuable model that lets you experience the unique sense of floating and the deep echo effects characteristic of real tape echo. Additionally, a preamp level control has been retrofitted for those who want to use only the preamp section. (Please note that the default setting is at the minimum position; if you apply the echo while the control is turned up, the sound will distort.)
