"I want a sound with more spaciousness." If you've ever held an acoustic guitar, you've probably felt this way at least once.
It's rare to find a guitar that exceeds your ideal. What exactly is that ideal sound? That feeling of stagnation. It's a frustration many players can relate to.
That's why we'd like to introduce the 1979 Ovation Super Adamas. Questioning the traditions of acoustic guitars, Ovation poured all its technological expertise into creating this pinnacle instrument, driven by the question: "How can we achieve a richer sound?"
Its most distinctive feature is the ultra-thin sandwich top made of carbon graphite and birch. At a mere 1.27mm—about one-third the thickness of a standard top—it remains resilient to temperature and humidity changes, vibrating as if the entire top were a thin sheet of glass. It produces a light, free vibration beyond its physical thickness, responding honestly to the player's tension. Eliminating the center soundhole, multiple soundholes positioned across the upper body allow vibrations to flow unimpeded, unleashing the energy of the entire top.
The wooden epaulettes, shaped like acanthus leaves seen in Greek architecture, embody traditional beauty and artistry while being an innovative model. They are crafted from diverse premium woods like Burmese teak, Indian rosewood, and amaranth, adding rich color. The instrument's signature brown color evokes the melancholy of autumn foliage, embodying the elegance inherent in Adamas.
The wood knobs characteristic of the early Super Adamas. Beyond the view that its charm lies in being an early specification, I feel it possesses another appeal.
The deliberate choice to retain the warmth of wood against the futuristic carbon graphite body. This choice speaks to the philosophy behind the Super Adamas instrument. This philosophy is also evident in the guitar's headstock and bridge. While representing an innovation in acoustic guitars, it never relinquishes the "beauty" inherent to an acoustic guitar. It is this coexistence that elevates this guitar to a truly unique existence.
The neck incorporates specially designed aluminum reinforcement "Kamanbar," while the fingerboard features resin-impregnated walnut. It boasts exceptional strength, resisting humidity and sweat, with minimal wear even after years of playing. The fingerboard, mounted to appear "floating" on the top, allows unimpeded vibration and delivers astonishingly fast response.
When playing this guitar, I feel like my touch has changed. After playing for a while, you realize it's not that your touch has actually changed, but that every nuance of your touch is being faithfully translated into sound. This honesty seems to smoothly elevate the player's expression.
The sound projects with clear high frequencies, while the low end maintains its core without excessive bloat, releasing into the space. Harmonics are rich yet clear, with a distinctness that seems to capture even the angle of the pick or the moisture on your fingertips.
Furthermore, the stereo specification characteristic of the early Adam's. The 1st, 3rd, and 5th strings are separated to the left, while the 2nd, 4th, and 6th strings go to the right. This creates a three-dimensional sound image where, even though one person is playing, it feels like two guitarists are responding to each other. It was a revolutionary means of expression itself, acclaimed as the "sound of the future" at live venues back then.
1979 Brown Adamas. Even after more than forty years, the epaulette's color remains unfaded, the top's luster is clear and bright, and it possesses an elegance reminiscent of autumn light. If you seek a leap forward with your next instrument, this guitar is a sure choice. The Super Adamas, a name etched in acoustic guitar history. This instrument, embodying Ovation's passion, artistry, and technical prowess, will guide your playing to new horizons.
