Martin / 1956–1961 Style-1
A rare “Martin Style-1”
manufactured from the late 1950s to the early 1960s
—a period often referred to as the golden age of vintage Martin ukuleles
Positioned as the premium model above the Style-0, the Style-1 features beautiful binding on the body top that gives it a well-defined silhouette, offering a sophisticated appearance that is simple yet showcases the craftsmanship of the era. Crafted from a
carefully selected, high-quality solid mahogany body, it brings the ultimate vintage sound back to life today.
Its most distinctive features are the crisp, dry tone unique to mahogany that has been beautifully seasoned over many years, and the surprisingly deep, rich resonance with the characteristic mellowed edges of a vintage instrument. The moment you pluck a
string, each note is beautifully defined, and the supreme tone—which fills the space with a gentle yet assured sound pressure—offers a charm that can never be experienced with modern instruments.
There is one more point I’d like to highlight about this particular instrument.

The included case bears the autograph of Danny Kaleikini—a legendary musician in the Hawaiian music scene and widely beloved as the “Ambassador of Aloha”—from a session they held together in Hawaii. It is
truly a one-of-a-kind commemorative piece where the history of Hawaiian music intersects with the instrument’s own history.
The previous owner maintained deep ties with local musicians.
Carefully nurtured while experiencing Hawaii’s dry winds and warm musical culture firsthand, this instrument possesses a special aura—distinct from ordinary vintage instruments—that only an instrument that has truly breathed in the authentic atmosphere of Hawaii can possess.
This is a gem of a guitar that our specialty shop confidently recommends—one that will allow you to fully savor the exquisite vintage Martin tone as a lifelong companion.
