Roscoe is a boutique brand based in North Carolina, USA. Because they are handmade by a small, elite team, annual production is limited to only about 200 units. Consequently, few units are distributed in Japan, and the brand remains relatively unknown here; however, its clear sound and neutral tone make it a favorite among fusion and R&B artists.
This model is part of the SKB series, characterized by its slightly smaller body. It features a smaller body with a shorter horn than the SKB3006 and is believed to be based on the body shape of the SKB5006.
It features a top made of beautifully grained quilted burl maple and a back made of Spanish cedar. The neck is bolt-on and features a 3-piece maple/purpleheart construction. The fingerboard is made of cocobolo with fret lines. Both the pickup and preamp are Bartolini units. Controls include volume, balance, and a 3-band EQ.
The sound is clear yet conveys the warm, dry character of the wood, and you can really feel how well the fretless design, wood selection, and electronics work together. This is a highly recommended choice for anyone looking for a high-quality 6-string fretless bass!
