Gibson / 1941 SJ-200
"A rare pre-war model."
In 1938, the SJ-200, later known as the "King of Flat-Tops," was introduced as Gibson's top-of-the-line model.
This particular instrument is a rare 1941 model, featuring a modified bridge design.
- Bridge material and saddle changes
Bridges from 1939 to 1940 were made of ebony, and the saddles had individual adjustable saddles for each string.RecruitPreviously, the bridge was made of rosewood, and the saddle was changed to a fixed single-piece type starting this year.
This specification would be carried over to the later J-200 model.

The pickguard is the original pre-war design with a single border and a celluloid tortoiseshell pattern.BassThe floral sculptures give it an artistic impression.
The carving's coloring has faded over time, but some white ink remains in places, and the 12 dots were made using two colors: yellow and white.
Another characteristic is that the pickguard engraving design varies depending on the era.

The body top is made of finely grained spruce and finished with a sunburst paint.
Furthermore, the faded paint and subtle weather checking give it a dignified look.

The rosette around the soundhole is decorated with a single line and an inner cell.

The sides and back are made of rosewood with a beautiful grain, giving it a luxurious feel.
The scratches on the buckle suggest that it has been used and worn for many years of playing.
The backstrip has a checkerboard pattern.RecruitIt is being done.
Unlike the maple back model, which features the same burst finish on the sides and back as the top, the rosewood models are finished with a natural finish.

The fingerboard material changed from ebony to rosewood in 1940.
While ebony is also a high-quality wood, this instrument uses rosewood with a delicate grain, which further enhances its luxurious feel.
The inlays feature crown inlays with different designs as you move from the lower positions to the higher positions.

The neck is a 3-piece structure with figured maple sandwiched in between layers of rosewood.Recruit。
The dark, almost black coloring that reveals the wood grain as it ages is really cool.
The C-shaped grip has a moderate thickness, but it doesn't feel as bulky as you might expect, making it very comfortable to hold.

The headstock, which is bound, features the Gibson script logo.RecruitFurthermore, a crown inlay, signifying a higher-end model, adorns the headstock.
Bell-shaped truss rod covers have a thick white frame.RecruitIt is mounted high above the nut.

Tuning machines have been around since the 1940s.RecruitIt will be equipped with KLUSON Sealfast.
The gold-colored casing and the amber-colored marble-patterned buttons on the back of the headstock make a striking statement.

A metal part for securing the strap is attached to the top of the head.
This part is also a rare feature found only in pre-war SJ-200s.

Similar to the back of the headstock, a metal part for securing the strap is also attached to the end of the body.

What do you think?
These rare pre-war models are uncommon on the market and are not often seen.
Moreover, even after more than 80 years, its excellent condition and undiminished, powerful sound continue to captivate SJ-200 fans worldwide.
"King of Flat-Tops"—this guitar truly lives up to its name.
