This is a legendary 1960s Shin-ei-made octaver fuzz, the “DUO FUZZ”!!
Shin-ei, known for producing “SUPER-FUZZ,” “Uni-Fuzz,” and more, is the fuzz made under the Univox brand, a trademark owned by a long-established musical instrument dealer/distributor based in London that has been in business since the 1920s. Although the names differ from other brands, several similar models have been confirmed. It is a type of fuzz that mixes upper octave tones and is equipped with BALANCE (output level) and EXPANDER (warp depth/power switch) controls; the TONE (1/2) switch lets you switch between a dandy sound and a mid-boosted sound. There is no special cover on the footswitch section, and it is left exposed. That psychedelic sound truly can be called a “living roar,” and it gives you plenty of that open feeling as if you’ve time-slipped back to the good old 60s to 70s.
The later ?UPER-FUZZ” is also known to have been used in the late years by the legendary Chet (Carter) Cober(n).
This is a valuable model that lets you glimpse the history of Japanese-made fuzz!
This item comes with its valuable original box (with damage) and a dedicated poly bag (it’s just a plain bag, but you don’t often come across one that still has it).
The age-related signs of use and rust are minimal, and I believe this is a clean individual piece.
Transistors : 2SC828×6
Included items: Box (damaged), dedicated poly bag
