[Features and appeal]
This is a Selmer-Paris piccolo trumpet, a Maurice André model. Supervised by Maurice André, one of the most renowned trumpet players of the 20th century, this model possesses a special presence, reflecting his musicality and aesthetic sensibilities.
André's playing has had a profound influence on many musicians, not only for his brilliant technique, but also for his soft and elegant tone, his light and singing phrasing, and the beauty of his high notes that never become overly sharp. This instrument is imbued with that very essence of André's playing.
Selmer piccolos from this era are often described as having a wonderful tone, but at the cost of being difficult to control. Unlike current models, which are designed to be easy for anyone to play, these instruments demand a high level of skill and concentration from the player.
However, the sound that emerges when you hit the sweet spot precisely is exceptional. The light, lustrous tone, with its softness and underlying strength, is a unique charm of this model. From Baroque works by Bach and Telemann to concerto repertoire, you can deeply appreciate the world of the piccolo trumpet that André pioneered.
For those who want to seriously engage with the piccolo trumpet and bring out its full potential through their own technique, this is a trumpet worth taking on. It is a rare piccolo trumpet that allows you to experience the aesthetics of the great performer Maurice André.
