Explanation
Private Stock with Foil Back Finish!!
Crafted from the finest wood owned by Paul Reed Smith and built to order one by one, the Private Stock line features many models with unique specifications that are possible precisely because they are custom-made. The McCarty was developed with advice from Ted McCarty, former president of Gibson, and features the PRS-original stoptail bridge, among other details, giving it a distinct character that sets it apart from the Custom 24.
The Private Stock model we’ve just received is finished in a V12 hybrid finish combining nitrocellulose and acrylic. The top features a natural color with a faded green hue, while the back features a foil-finished silver/black metallic finish, creating a look that seamlessly blends vintage charm with modern glamour. While based on the McCarty, it offers improved versatility with features like a 24-fret design and is equipped with 57/08 pickups. It delivers the rapid attack characteristic of PRS while also offering the punchy midrange of a traditional humbucker, resulting in a distinctive high-end sound. The more you examine the details—such as the curly maple headstock and fingerboard, along with the bird inlays embedded in the headstock—the more you’ll appreciate Paul Rees Smith’s artistry and precision, making this a truly educational Private Stock guitar!
