This is the CC-1 (Cornish Crunch), a low-gain crunch drive pedal equipped with a well-regarded Class A input buffer and RF (radio frequency) suppressor as standard!
It features two fixed low-gain soft clipping stages. Prior to these, a linear preamplifier with variable gain (maximum +22dB) is positioned to compensate for low-output pickups and, when necessary, provide additional drive to the soft clipping stages. Instead of hard diode clipping, it utilizes two low-gain soft clipping stages.RecruitThe advantage of this design is that when the signal level falls below the transition point, those signals are effectively (and automatically) excluded from the signal path. This results in a perfectly clean tone when the guitar's volume is turned down. As you pick harder and the signal level increases, the soft clipping gradually kicks in, adding harmonics (the stronger the signal, the more harmonics there are). Meanwhile, the signal peaks are not clipped (capped), so the volume continues to increase. As a result, dynamics are maintained, creating an extremely musical sound. Following the soft clipping stage is a 3-band active EQ with frequency ranges optimized for guitar. Being active, the 12 o'clock position of each control knob acts as the zero (neutral) point, allowing for both boosting and cutting as desired. A second linear boost stage is located after the tone circuit to compensate for the overall volume drop that often occurs when the tone is set to "cut". An output master volume is also included, allowing for perfect matching of signal levels when bypassed and when the effect is ON (boost/EQ applied). Furthermore, it has ample signal headroom, allowing you to overdrive the amplifier input when needed. The output buffer has a low impedance design, which allows you to easily drive it even when connecting long cables or other loads without degrading the signal or tone.
