"It sounds beautiful, yet somehow it feels lacking." Does that vague sense of “sound limitations” ring a bell? Wood-bodied acoustic guitars are wonderful. There’s no doubt about that.
But if you’ve been playing for years, you’ve surely sensed it. That there might be a whole new level of sound waiting to be discovered.
Many guitarists who have picked up a Super Adamas say this: “When I played it for the first time, I thought it was a completely different instrument.”
The sensation that even the slightest nuance of your picking is translated directly into sound. The sense of openness as the resonance of chords spreads three-dimensionally throughout the entire space. And an acoustic design that envelops you seamlessly from low to high frequencies. It’s a sound that wood cannot produce—a sound that only the Adamas can produce.
The Super Adamas 1687 is Ovation’s perfect answer to the question, “How can we make the body resonate more?” A carbon-graphite top inspired by aerospace technology.
This reduces the thickness of a standard acoustic guitar top by two-thirds, maximizing its vibrational response. This thin top instantly converts the delicate vibrations of the strings into sound, achieving a responsiveness and harmonic richness unmatched by any other acoustic guitar.
The 1984 Super Adamas 1687-8 we’re introducing here is a model from what is known as the “golden age.” Among fans, it is said that “Adamas models made around 1984 have thin tops,” and its sound is as delicate yet powerful as thin glass vibrating, revealing completely different expressions with even the slightest variation in picking intensity.
Furthermore, this particular instrument retains many of the distinctive features of that era, such as the FET preamp and wooden knobs, and its presence is so striking that one is tempted to call it a work of art rather than just an instrument.
The deep body color, represented by color code “8,” evokes the indigo hue of the pre-dawn sky. It’s the color of that moment at 4 a.m., when the city sleeps and the sky transitions from black to indigo, gradually taking on a faint glow. It possesses a presence that is both ethereal and imbued with a certain nostalgic beauty. and in your hands, this guitar will play not just a sound, but a “scene” as well.
Furthermore, renowned artists such as Kousetsu Minami and Chiharu Matsuyama, who were active in the Japanese acoustic scene of the 1970s and 1980s, entrusted their hearts to Adamas.
This particular instrument was made in 1984. Adamas guitars from this era are few and far between, and prices continue to soar even in the overseas collector’s market. Furthermore, a model preserved in such beautiful condition is extremely rare. It is not something you can simply find by looking. Your chance to encounter this guitar may be “now” and never again.
An Adamas that will add new depth to your music. Its sound and presence cannot be fully conveyed by specifications alone. Please come to our store and experience it for yourself with your own ears and fingertips.
