“How can we make the body of an acoustic guitar vibrate to the fullest?” In response to that question, Ovation’s answer was “Adamas.”
Seeking durability and resonance impossible with wood tops, it uses carbon material, which was cutting-edge in aerospace technology, and combines it with Ovation’s original fan bracing structure and lyrachord body. The Super Adamas 1687 is truly a symbol of that innovation.
What we are introducing this time is a 1978 Super Adamas 1687-7 Beige, an early-spec individual. Among existing Adamas models, it is an especially rare example from that era.
First, you’ll be captivated by its appearance. Its beauty is like new shoots sparkling as they catch the light in the spring sunshine. Although some parts are hard to see from the photos, you can appreciate the abundance of abalone, a hallmark of the early models.
Rather than flashy, it has a presence with a dignified elegance, giving it the charm of a work of art that transcends the guitar frame.
And then, the sound. Just a light strum of the chords makes the space feel as if it gently rises. The low end shakes the body deeply, while the highs are delicate yet have a presence that reaches into the corners of the room. Its resonance seems to fill from the inside out. Those who touch this guitar for the first time will likely be surprised by its three-dimensional sound. Also, the way it sounds is clearly different from later Super Adamas models.
The secret to this sound lies in the carbon graphite and birch-laminated top. The responsiveness of the extremely thin top plate, something wood alone could never achieve, directly converts the nuances of picking into sound. At the time, many artists, including Kosei Minami and Chiharu Matsuyama, used Adamas, helping to spark a new trend in the guitar world.
Be sure to experience the atmosphere of the 1970s with your own hands.
