The Hama Okamoto Signature Fender KATANA BASS!
This model was released in 2021 as a limited-edition signature model for Hama Okamoto, the bassist of OKAMOTO’S.
It’s a recreation of the rare Squier “KATANA” model, which was produced for only a brief period starting in 1985.This model recreates that iconic instrument—the one Hama Okamoto boldly customized and has cherished on countless stages. It features a basswood body, a rosewood fingerboard, and split-coil pickups designed to reproduce a vintage tone. With a 32-inch medium scale, this bass—despite its unconventional body shape—is actually easy for smaller players to hold.
Not only is the body unique, but the headstock shape and decals are also specifications not found in Fender’s existing lineup. This is quite an unusual model, especially for a signature Bass. It truly reflects Hama Okamoto’s attention to detail and Fender’s strong commitment to bringing his vision to life!
Its sound is characterized by a rich, full-bodied tone ranging from the low to mid-low frequencies. Compared to the short-scale Mustang bass, it has a tighter, more defined sound, while compared to the long-scale Precision bass, it offers a slightly looser feel—a result of the reduced string tension inherent to the medium scale.
Although the nut width is almost identical to that of a Precision Bass, this instrument is meticulously crafted for playability with a slim U-shaped neck profile. It’s a must-see not only for fans but also for anyone who loves quirky, unconventional Basses!
