The legendary Melody Maker Bass—a model produced for only a few years!
Gibson’s Melody Maker (guitar) was released in 1959. Introduced as a student model to expand the market, it was a very simple design featuring a single pickup. The Melody Maker Bass was produced for only a few years, from the late 1960s through the early 1970s. Due to its short production run, fewer units were made than the guitar version, making it a rare model that rarely appears on the market.
It features an SG-style mahogany body and a short-scale mahogany neck. With a single humbucker positioned near the neck, its specifications are quite similar to the EB-0. There is no pickup beneath the fretboard, which serves as a thumb rest and contributes to its sleek, tight-looking design.
The sound is powerful and bass-heavy, similar to the EB-0 and EB-1. It features a ground-shaking sound—as if it were equipped with a subwoofer—that cannot be found in other Bass models.
While it isn’t an all-around, versatile model, it possesses a presence that only this Bass can deliver. Combined with its beautiful Perham Blue finish, this is a truly one-of-a-kind instrument that exudes unique charm in both sound and appearance.
