Rare LPB Colors and a “Rustic Sound”!
Fender Japan was established in 1982. Following a change in distributors, the “Fender Japan” name was phased out in 2015. Since then, Fender has continued to manufacture high-quality instruments under the MIJ (Made in Japan) series, but Fender Japan instruments have earned high acclaim as “Japan Vintage” models and remain popular both domestically and internationally.
This instrument was manufactured between 2004 and 2006. It is the MB98-80SD, a short-scale Mustang bass model that is currently experiencing a surge in popularity. It features a Lake Placid Blue finish—believed to be an off-catalog color—with a white pearl pickguard. There are no noticeable scratches, and it is in exceptionally good condition.
It comes standard with pickups co-developed with Seymour Duncan. Unlike the more versatile Mustang basses with PJ layouts released later by MIJ and Fender Mexico, this model offers a classic, “this is the Mustang bass” sound that’s truly captivating. This is a bass that lets you fully enjoy the playability of the short scale, the ease of handling thanks to its lightweight and compact design, and its unique string tension and rich, resonant sound!
