Explanation
Martin / 2006 000C-28 Andy Summers
[Demo Video]
This guitar was released by Martin as a signature model for Andy Summers, the guitarist known for his powerful playing with the American rock band “The Police.” It’s packed with unique features, so let’s take a closer look.
—Fine-Grained Top Wood Based on the 000 (Triple-O) size, this guitar features Alpine spruce. Sourced from the Alps in northern Italy, this wood is considered rare and is used in high-end guitars. Its fine-grained figure is eye-catching. The top is also finished with an aging toner.
—Cutaway One of this guitar’s defining features is its cutaway. This allows Andy to play in the higher frets, and it may reflect his unique dedication to being able to play everything—from chords to melodies—on this single instrument.
—Top Inlay The soundboard features a chevron-checker inlay, and the rosette surrounding the soundhole incorporates white and black inlays along with a herringbone pattern.
—Sides/Back Indian rosewood is used, and the center strip features a multicolored design similar to that of the D-45. Black celluloid is also used for the back.
—Fingerboard The ebony fingerboard features Mudra finger inlays as well as a Tai Chi symbol. The 20th fret is inlaid with Andy Summers’ signature in mother-of-pearl.
—Bridge The ebony pyramid bridge is fitted with short saddles and black bridge pins.
—Bridge The slim-shaped mahogany neck offers comfortable playability for both chord work and solos. As a result, this is a guitar that excels not only in chord work but also in solo playing.
—Head The sharp-looking head, featuring an Indian rosewood veneer, is wrapped in white and black celluloid and adorned with lotus flower inlays. It’s a luxurious design reminiscent of the torch inlays found on the 40-series models.
—Tuning Machines The guitar features WAVERLY open-back tuning machines. While modern in appearance, they still convey a sense of authenticity.
—Pickups This model comes standard with the FISHMAN Ellipse Blend System. Since it allows you to blend the under-saddle piezo and the microphone, it truly shines not only in live performances but also in recording.
