—Beautiful, fine-grained spruce
The spruce top features a beautiful, fine-grained figure, clearly indicating that high-quality wood was specifically selected for this instrument.
In addition to white binding, the instrument features abalone shell purfling, and the soundhole is adorned with multi-striped celluloid and abalone shell.

—Pickguard
During this period, inlaid pickguards were common, and it was not uncommon for them to be replaced due to warping or cracking (commonly known as "Martin cracks") caused by differences in shrinkage between the pickguard material and the wood. However, this instrument has remarkably retained its original condition.

—Indian Rosewood
From the latter half of 1969 through 1970, the wood was changed to Indian rosewood.
This instrument features Indian rosewood on the sides and back.
Although the grain is straight-grained, it evokes the beautiful striped pattern of a wood like Brazilian rosewood.
Like the top, it features white celluloid inlays, complemented by abalone shell decorations.
A multicolored inlay is applied to the center strip, enhancing its beauty.

—Fingerboard
The jet-black ebony fingerboard features hexagonal abalone shell inlays.
Because it is a natural material, no two patterns are alike, offering a beautiful appearance and luster.
White binding is applied to the sides of the fingerboard.

—Neck
The mahogany neck features a soft V-shape with just the right thickness.
This ensures a comfortable playing experience.

—Bridge
The ebony Downberry bridge is fitted with white bridge pins (abalone dots) and a short saddle.
A characteristic of the 1980s D-45 is that the saddle material was changed from ivory to Micarta around 1980.

ーHeadstock
The headstock, made of Indian rosewood veneer, was redesigned with a more angular shape starting in the 1970s, giving it a stylish look.
Additionally, the vertical abalone shell logo—an essential feature of the D-45—exudes a sense of luxury.

—Tuning Machines
The tuners feature Schaller M6 models with gold housings engraved with the Martin logo.
Not only are they lightweight and stylish, but they also ensure smooth tuning.
