Martin / 1967 D-28
"A legendary instrument in the history of folk music"
The D-28, introduced in 1931 and named after the British battleship "Dreadnought."
Although more than 90 years have passed, this legendary instrument—which has undergone various minor modifications over the years—is still used by many artists today.
Martin popularized the Dreadnought as the standard size for folk guitars.
Its powerful sound, derived from its size, has been cherished in many folk songs.

The "28" in the model number refers to the rosewood used for the sides and back, and Brazilian rosewood was traditionally used.
Starting in the late 1960s, due to a shortage of wood, the material was changed to Indian rosewood.
This particular instrument features the pre-change Brazilian rosewood, producing a sweet yet clear tone.

The rounded headstock is equipped with Grover tuners (commonly known as “milk bottles”).
Compared to open-back tuners, the weight is concentrated in the headstock, which may be a contributing factor to its rich, full-bodied sound.

The volute-shaped neck has a gentle V-shape, making it easy to access the frets, which is why it has been used primarily for folk music centered around strumming.
Additionally, 1967 marks the transition from T-bar truss rods to square truss rods, but this particular instrument is a rare pre-transition model featuring a T-bar truss rod.

The sound produced by this instrument, crafted from Sitka spruce and Brazilian rosewood, will surely make you think, “That’s the sound I heard in that folk song!”
Its bright, mellow, and rounded tone makes strumming a joy; amplified by the Dreadnought-sized body, it is rich in harmonics, captivating both the player and the listener.
Why not experience that coveted sound for yourself?
