This is a famous unit born in the late 1980s as the successor to the “Amp Marshall”Effector!
The drive sound with the LED clipperRecruit is truly Marshall’s bloodline. At the time, it was said, “Even with a JC (Jazz Chorus), it sounds like Marshall!!” This is the GunnerEffector that was said to produce that tone. I remember it being instantly broken up by the use of Mr. Takasaki at the time. Even in its intensity, you can feel a subtle elegance in the midrange. With the large-range 3-band EQ, highly flexible tone shaping is possible. Equipped with an effect-loop (Send & Return) jack linked to the unit’s bypass switch, it can connect to otherEffector by using a Stereo jack ⇔ Mono jack × 2 cable. The original Gunner released in 1988 was made in England, while the Gunner reissued in 1998 was made in Korea. Even among the original England-made units, the early versions have a green circuit board, while the later versions have a blue circuit board. Compared with the England-made original unit, which used Motorola or Texas Instruments TL072CP (or TL072C) op-amps, the Korean-made reissue used JRC 072BD (or 072D). Comparing the Korean reissue’s sound, the original England-made unit has a rich lower-midrange and a thick sound. The Korean-made reissue, by contrast, has stronger highs and somewhat less lower-midrange. A recent reissue version has also been released.
