This legendary pedal was born in the late 1980s as an effects pedal that carried on the tradition of "Marshall of the amps"!
The drive sound, produced by an LED clipper, is truly in the Marshall lineage. This is *The Governor*, which was famously said at the time to “make even a JC (Jazz Chorus) sound like a Marshall!!” I remember how it shot to fame overnight thanks to Akira Takasaki’s use of it back then. Even amidst its intensity, you can sense a rich, smooth luster in the mids. The 3-band EQ with a wide range of adjustment allows for highly flexible tone shaping. This unit features an Effect-Loop (Send & Return) jack that operates in tandem with the Bypass switch, allowing you to connect other effects pedals using a Stereo-to-Mono-to-Mono cable. The original Governor, released in 1988, was manufactured in the UK, while the reissue from 1998 was made in South Korea. Even among the original UK-made units, early models featured a green circuit board, whereas later models had a blue one. While the British-made Governor was equipped with a TL072CP (or TL072C) op-amp manufactured by Motorola or Texas Instruments, the Korean-made reissue features a JRC 072BD (or 072D).When comparing the sound of the Korean reissue to that of the original British-made unit, the original has a rich, full-bodied sound in the mid-low range. In contrast, the Korean reissue has a stronger high-frequency response and the mid-low range seems slightly less pronounced. A reissue version has also been released in recent years.
