[Features]
The LOTUS SOLO features a 140-millimeter medium-large tapered bell. The bell stem is made of copper, while the flare is made of phosphor bronze. At low volumes, the sound is soft and creamy—at times so sweet it evokes a cornet—yet as you increase your air pressure, the sound transforms dramatically into a bright and vivid tone.It is this wide range of expression—which goes beyond mere depth and warmth—that is the SOLO’s greatest appeal.
The difference between the SOLO and the SOLO MAX can no longer be explained simply by weight. While the latest versions of both models weigh nearly the same, they differ in bell size—140 mm for the SOLO and 145 mm for the SOLO MAX—and their distinct designs, including the taper of the leadpipe, clearly define each model’s unique character. While the SOLO MAX fills the space with a larger, fuller, and richer resonance, the SOLO is a model with a bit more focus, allowing for fluid movement and quick shifts in tone.
As a result, it sings warmly and envelopingly in ballads and chamber music, while delivering a thick, lustrous sound in jazz solos; depending on the setup, it can even venture into reed and commercial styles.A combination of a deep cup and bronze-based materials leans toward a sweet, rich tone, while choosing a brighter mouthpiece or a nickel-silver tuning slide brings the contour and brilliance even more to the forefront. It possesses the depth to swing widely in the direction the player desires, rather than being fixed to a single tone.
The ability to further refine playing feel and tone through three types of tuning slides—yellow brass, phosphor bronze, and nickel silver—is unique to LOTUS. You may not need the overwhelming sense of scale found in the SOLO MAX, but you likely want the depth, sweetness, and presence as a soloist that a standard trumpet cannot provide. The SOLO is designed to hit that perfect balance. Among the LOTUS lineup, this is a model where you can particularly enjoy a wide range of tonal variations.
