Explanation
“I want to experience that rich, clear ash and maple tone and the unique presence of the 1954 Stratocaster that redefined rock history.” But since this is a premium limited-edition model celebrating the 70th anniversary, aren’t you looking for something more than just a reissue—an authentic instrument that combines that classic sound with superb playability, allowing you to play it stress-free on today’s stages?
Fender’s iconic Stratocaster marks its 70th anniversary since its debut in 1954. While there are numerous models crafted to celebrate this momentous occasion, what truly excites collectors and touring musicians alike is the supreme commemorative model—a masterpiece created with passion by the artisans at Fender Custom Shop, the brand’s pinnacle division. The neck profile, measured from a guitar produced during the extremely limited July 1954 production run, and the unique character produced by hand-wound pickups crafted by master artisans are experiences you simply cannot find in mass-produced models.
We’ve just received the ultimate limited-edition model, a fusion of the romance of the Stratocaster’s 70th anniversary and the Custom Shop’s cutting-edge craftsmanship. It is the Fender Custom Shop Limited Fat 1954 Stratocaster Relic with Closet Classic Hardware, featuring meticulously applied aging. It blends authentic details—as if you’ve traveled back in time to the moment the Strat was born—with modern playability.
It features an ash body, hand-selected by the Custom Shop’s wood-selection team, that boasts a clear and bright midrange. The neck is crafted from carefully selected one-piece quarter-sawn maple, resistant to warping and twisting, producing a crystal-clear response.
It features a thicker 70th Anniversary Soft V-shape profile, modeled after an actual instrument produced in July 1954. The fingerboard features a 9.5-inch radius and oversized frets, achieving excellent playability that balances a substantial grip with smooth bending.
It is equipped with three Hand-Wound Fat 50s pickups, hand-wound by artisans. These pickups emit rich harmonics and an acoustic, airy quality that machine-wound pickups cannot match, achieving a high-level balance between the crisp clarity characteristic of the 1950s and a full-bodied tone that holds its own in an ensemble.
This premium, limited-edition Custom Shop model was created to commemorate the 70th anniversary milestone. For guitarists who want to experience the thick, comfortable neck of an early ’54 model—or who are searching for a versatile main Strat that’s clear yet full-bodied and suitable for any genre—this is a once-in-a-lifetime encounter with a guitar that will be a lifelong companion.
Transcending the 70 years since its birth, this guitar unleashes the exquisite tone of hand-wound pickups and the unique aura of the 70th Anniversary Limited Edition. Experience the supreme ’54 Stratocaster that Fender has created with pride.
