Lucas / 2000 Model LD-28
The “Lucas LD-28”
was crafted in 2000 by Randy Lucas during the peak of his career as a luthier. With a workshop in Columbus, Indiana, and a background in mechanical engineering, Lucas conducted exhaustive research—down to the millimeter—into the designs of pre-war Martin guitars from the 1930s.
The reason this instrument received unprecedented acclaim for having “an authentic tone” lies in his exceptional engineering perspective and his extraordinary dedication to wood.
In fact, now that he has effectively ceased guitar making, he has made a name for himself as a “wood specialist” who supplies wood—specifically the highest-grade Adirondack spruce, a hallmark of American craftsmanship—to renowned master luthiers as a premier private supplier.
This instrument, the “LD-28,” is truly a dream combination, featuring Adirondack spruce—which he had been hoarding for his own brand—on the top, and breathtakingly beautiful, top-quality Brazilian rosewood (Hacalanda) on the sides and back, used without hesitation.
The Adirondack top, which he meticulously selected board by board using an engineering-based approach and perfectly voiced, imparts astonishing sustain and explosive resonance to every single note. As if the vibrations of the strings, drawn in over the
years, have completely fused with the wood at the cellular level, the entire body resonates effortlessly like a speaker the moment you begin to play. When you
strum it, the hard, deep, and clear bass characteristic of Brazilian rosewood resonates like a rumbling earth; when you pluck it, the silky, seductive high frequencies decay with endless beauty.
It’s rare to come across a guitar that moves you with just a single note. If you miss out on
this shipment, you may never again have the chance to encounter another instrument from the year 2000 that has achieved such miraculous aging.
Experience firsthand the overwhelming potential of this historic masterpiece.
