The K.Nyui OPB Style Featuring Thunderbird Pickups!
"K.Nyui Custom Guitars" are crafted by Kazuhiko Nyui—one of Japan’s leading luthiers and the head of P.G.M.—who oversees everything from wood selection and component choices (including pickups) to final setup.
Built in 2018, this unique model features an OPB (Telecaster Bass) body shape paired with Thunderbird-style pickups. It features an ash body and a slightly thicker neck, with the wood selection adhering to the OPB style. It is equipped with two Lollar Thunderbird pickups, mounted closer to the bridge in a layout that follows the Thunderbird design. The metal escutcheons further enhance the pickups’ striking presence.The compact control knobs contribute to a cohesive, slightly mechanical-looking aesthetic that is part of the instrument’s appeal.
The sound clearly reflects the pickups’ characteristics, featuring the mellow tone of the front pickup and the tight, full-bodied richness of the rear pickup, resulting in a powerful sound with prominent mid-to-low frequencies. It has a different character from the mahogany Thunderbird, offering a crisper, more punchy tone!
