Explanation
It’s not too rustic. That’s why it’s a Precision Bass you can use on the job.
16 Bass Guitars is a brand founded by professional bassist Ichiro Fujitani.
The brand’s concept is to bring “truly great Bass” to as many bassists as possible. Having used numerous vintage and high-end Basss in actual professional settings, Mr. Fujitani himself aims to recreate—in New instruments—the lustrous high-mids and rich midrange of vintage Basss, as well as the comfortable playability that makes them a joy to play—features he personally finds desirable.
Manufacturing is handled by Red House Guitars, which has a workshop in Nagano Prefecture. Natori Otozo, highly regarded in the fields of vintage parts and modifications, is involved in the sound design. The 16 Bass Guitars were born from the fusion of a design philosophy born from a bassist’s perspective and some of Japan’s finest craftsmanship.
This model is the PB-style JIMINY PB Zenith. Equipped with the vintage “Zenith” capacitor—which lends its name to the model—and the “Hard Candy” tone, tuned specifically for this PB, it delivers a sound that balances richness and clarity.
The controls are kept simple, with just a volume knob. This reflects the confidence in the instrument’s craftsmanship itself, as the player’s touch and nuances are directly reflected in the sound.
Like the JB-type, the neck features a 38mm nut width, ensuring minimal discomfort when switching from a jazz Bass and delivering excellent playability. Additionally, by adopting a slimmer neck shape compared to a standard Precision Bass, it retains the rugged character unique to the Precision Bass while contributing to a tight, responsive sound.
Based on Mr. Fujitani’s belief that “a sound that’s too rough is difficult to use effectively,” this model pursues an exquisite balance that’s easy to handle in the modern music scene, while still possessing the power characteristic of the Precision Bass. It features a low end that’s full-bodied without being overly expansive, paired with a rich midrange. The sound—well-defined without excessive bloat—performs exceptionally well across all genres.
It comes factory-strung with Thomastik-Infeld flat-wound strings as standard, allowing you to experience a sound that’s mellow yet well-defined. If you switch to round-wound strings, you’ll likely get a brighter tone in the upper-midrange!
Since Mr. Fujitani himself uses this model for live performances and other gigs, it’s a guitar that truly demonstrates its high level of craftsmanship and reliability!
