16 Bass Guitars is a brand founded by professional bassist Ichiro Fujitani.
The brand’s concept is to bring “truly great Bass” to as many bassists as possible. Having used numerous vintage and high-end Basss in actual professional settings, Mr. Fujitani himself aims to recreate—in New instruments—the lustrous high-mids, rich midrange, and comfortable playability that vintage Basss possess—qualities he personally finds desirable.
Manufacturing is handled by Red House Guitars, which has a workshop in Nagano Prefecture. Natori Onzo, highly regarded in the fields of vintage parts and modifications, is involved in the sound design. The 16 Bass Guitars were born from the fusion of a design philosophy born from a bassist’s perspective and some of Japan’s finest craftsmanship.
This model is the JB-style Jiminy JB Contemporary. It features classic wood materials: an alder body and a rosewood fingerboard Recruit. The body shape is the same as the PB type, offering a compact, comfortable playing position. Controls include a master volume and pickup balancer. Although the layout differs from that of a typical JB-type guitar, it offers intuitive and simple operation.
It delivers ample low-end presence combined with a tight low-mid range, producing a sound where the core of the tone comes through clearly even within a band ensemble. While rooted in a vintage sound, the addition of a touch of modern tightness creates an exquisite balance that makes it highly versatile for today’s music scene. When using only the front pickup, you can achieve a Precision-like sound, among other options, making it versatile for a wide range of tone-shaping.
