Explanation
"Hubber Mute" is manufactured in Brooklyn, New York. The company produces a wide variety of mutes, including cup mutes, straight mutes, wah-wah mutes, pixie mutes, and solo tone mutes. What they all have in common is that they are Bass on "old, classic mutes that are no longer available."
We’ve reissued vintage sounds—such as those of Shastock, Ray Robinson, and the Newston Line from the Chicago era—in a more user-friendly form, incorporating Huber Music’s unique interpretation.
The cup mutes featured on this page offer a wide range of options, as you can select the body and the movable cup separately.
・Body
“Type A” features a large inlet hole and a long straight section. Inspired by Schastock cup mutes, it produces a bright, open cup sound.
“Type B” is Huber’s original design. It has a small inlet hole and a longer taper, which creates more internal space and emphasizes the soft, characteristic cup sound. It offers a familiar cup sound.
・Cup Section
The “Bowl” was designed Bass on the now-discontinued Shastock cup mute. It produces a rounded sound with excellent projection and is a popular choice when paired with Type A. This combination is recommended for those who want to add variety to their sound.
The “Felt Line” was designed Bass on Ray Robinson’s now-discontinued cup mute. It’s ideal for those seeking a dark sound with a solid core beneath its softness. It’s a popular pairing with Type B.
The “Scallop” was designed Bass on the Newston Line (NSL) cup mute from the early Chicago era. It produces a bright, resonant sound with more projection than the NSL, but positioning the cup closer to the bell allows for a softer tone. For those seeking a classic sound, we recommend pairing it with Type B. If you’re in a band and want to enhance projection even further, try pairing it with Type A.
