The massive pickguard mounted on the 16-inch maple body (J-185 size) deliberately suppresses excess vibration in the top wood. This produces a distinctive “percussive cutting sound” characterized by short
sustain and a sharp attack.

The narrow neck—characteristic of the late ’60s—combined with the adjustable saddle, delivers a tighter, crisper attack.

Due to its oversized pickguard design, this model is prone to damage to the top wood; however, this 1968 example is an extremely rare specimen that has survived while retaining excellent playability. With such a limited
production run, it is extremely rare to find one on the market in working vintage condition, and there is no guarantee you’ll ever come across another guitar with the same sound and condition.

- In addition to the crack reinforcement at the lower center of the
body, there is a repair using a patch.
- Crack repairs are present on the upper left and right sides of the soundhole.
- A crack repair is present at the lower left of the soundhole. - A crack repair is present at the lower left of the
soundhole (along the pickguard).
- Reinforcement is present inside the body beneath the fingerboard (around the 16th to 18th frets).
- An additional strap pin has been added to the neck heel.
- There are traces indicating that a strap pin was added to the base of the neck and later removed (the hole has been filled and repaired)
. - The body sides have been refinished.
- The neck has been over-lacquered throughout.
- Signs of a neck reset are visible.
- There is a glued crack repair just to the right of the center of the body back.
- There is a touch-up beneath the pickguard (at the indentation on the 1st string side).
- The strap hole at the body end has been enlarged, indicating that a pickup jack was previously installed.
[Playability]
- The instrument plays well, with no muffled tones or buzzing. - String action at the
12th fret: 2.4 mm on the 6th string side, 2.0 mm
on the 1st string side. - String action can be adjusted up or down using the adjustable saddle.
