Gibson / 1963 DOVE
- Natural color first year model
In 1962, the Dove appeared as the successor to the Hummingbird, featuring a square-shouldered body.
The Hummingbird features a design of a hummingbird sipping nectar from a flower on its pickguard, while the Dove features a design of a dove resting its wings on a branch, reminiscent of Rosa acycloalis.

The 1962 Dove was released in cherry sunburst, but from the following year, 1963, natural colors were added to the lineup.
In addition to having a different kind of warmth and sophistication compared to the cherry color, the pickguard design really stands out.

- Scale and bridge

Furthermore, while the Hummingbird has a medium scale length, the Dove has a long scale length, meaning the string length is longer.
Furthermore, while the Hummingbird has an adjustable saddle, the Dove has a Tune-O-Matic.RecruitI am doing it.
This results in a crisp, well-defined, and sharp rock sound.
- Unseen specification changes
The Dove was introduced in 1962, but some of its specifications were changed the very next year.
That's a bridge plate.
While the 1962 Dove guitar used a single piece of maple, it changed to a three-piece construction from 1963 onwards.
I suspect this is probably to increase the strength and thickness of the bridge plate, thereby improving the durability of the bolts on both sides of the Tune-O-Matic and adding depth to the tone.
The beauty of the maple wood, the carving and coloring of the pickguard, and the dove inlay made of mother-of-pearl, all hallmarks of this higher-end square-shouldered guitar, give it a rarity and artistry that can only be found in this instrument.
