Gibson / 1935 L-50
That dry, earthy attack and rich midrange you hear on swing jazz and country blues records.Even if you seek the authentic resonance of real wood—honed over nearly 90 years—that
modern archtop guitars simply cannot reproduce, pre-war vintage Gibsons are rarely found on the market, and their prices continue to skyrocket.
If you compromise and choose a modern model, you’ll never truly achieve the historical depth you’re seeking, and you’ll likely find yourself trapped in an endless cycle of gear hunting.
For the L-50, which debuted in 1932, 1935 marked an extremely important turning point in guitar history. It was in 1935 that the model underwent a complete redesign, evolving from its
previous small body to a full-fledged archtop style—featuring a 16-inch-wide body and f-holes, identical to those of the higher-end L-5 model. This vintage guitar offers a full immersion in the essence of
pre-war Gibson, boasting both exceptional historical value and high practicality.
—A sound matured over 90 years: The
aged, curved spruce top has dried to the absolute limit. The thick, dry, percussive attack released the moment you
pick the strings is a pre-war tone that can never be replicated through artificial aging.
—16-inch Body

The 16-inch wide body and f-holes, recruited this year, produce a rich, resonant tone. It’s a perfect fit for everything from
jazz chord strumming to gritty blues fingerpicking.
—Pre-war-style extra-thick V-neck

A solid, thick V-shaped neck—the very hallmark of 1930s Gibson guitars. It is precisely
this neck’s substantial mass that serves as the primary driving force behind its core-filled, robust sound.
Instruments featuring the specifications of the landmark transitional year of 1935, while maintaining playability suitable for modern performance, are constantly in high demand among players and collectors worldwide.
Encountering a pre-war archtop that has survived 90 years of history is truly a once-in-a-lifetime miracle, and we cannot guarantee when you’ll next come across such a fine specimen in such excellent condition.
We invite you to experience firsthand the overwhelming weight of history and the authentic, “matured tone” that only vintage instruments can produce. To schedule a trial play or request additional images, please contact us via the inquiry form right away.
