This legendary amp was born in the late 1980s as the Effector that carried on the Marshall amp tradition!

Its drive sound, utilizing an LED clipper, is pure Marshall lineage. This is The Governor, famously hailed back then as "Even the JC (Jazz Chorus) can sound like a Marshall!!" I remember it breaking through big time thanks to Akira Takasaki's use of it. Even amidst its intensity, you can feel a rich, smooth sheen in the mids. The wide-range 3-band EQ allows for highly flexible tone shaping.It features an Effect-Loop (Send & Return) jack that links with the unit's Bypass switch. Using a Stereo jack ⇔ Mono jack ×2 cable allows connection to other Effector units. The original Governor released in 1988 was made in the UK, while the 1998 reissue Governor was manufactured in Korea.Even among the British-made originals, early units had green circuit boards, while later ones used blue boards. The British-made Governor used Motorola or Texas Instruments TL072CP (or TL072C) op-amps, whereas the Korean reissue uses JRC 072BD (or 072D).Comparing the sound of the Korean reissue to the British original: the British original has a rich, thick sound with abundant mid-low frequencies. In contrast, the Korean reissue has a stronger high-frequency response and gives the impression of slightly less mid-low frequency presence. A recent reissue version has also been released.
