Fender / 1950s Champion Lap Steel
A representative lap steel guitar from Fender from the 1950s has arrived.
Champion was originally sold as a student model, but due to its excellent sound, it is now widely popular among professional musicians.
The one we have in stock this time is from the early 1950s.
The vibrant yellow pearl finish and moderate amber color give it a vintage look that is even more appealing.
The serial number is in the 3000 range.
It is believed to be from around 1952.
The head plate and nut are integrally formed.
It's stamped "Fender Electric Instrument Co. Fullerton, California." Very cool.
The screws on the plate are Phillips head screws.
Phillips screws replaced flathead screws around the latter half of 1952.
On the other hand, the screws on the control plate are flat head screws, but these have been replaced.
The tuners have been replaced with Kluson-type triple-tuners of unknown manufacturer. Traces of the original Kluson tuners can be seen on the back of the headstock.
The pickups are original.
The powerful and crisp sound is impressive.
The tone pot has been replaced with a CTS dated 1983.
The Volt pot has also been replaced and the date is unreadable, but it appears to be from the same year.
The capacitors have been replaced with Sprague Bumble Bees.
Comes with original alligator case.
There is damage to the metal fittings and a torn case, so it is quite old.
This is one of the best vintage items, including the design, looks, and hardware. First of all, it makes you excited just by looking at it.
