DR has experimented with a new phosphor bronze alloy specifically for high-quality acoustic guitars. The result is a string with low tension that produces a loud, warm sound. You’ll notice a significant improvement in the depth of body resonance, tone, and sustain, particularly on high-quality guitars with carved archtops, dreadnots, and rosewood, maple, or mahogany tops.
Steve Kaufman, a bluegrass virtuoso and three-time U.S. guitar picking champion, recommends these strings to all his students, noting that they last exceptionally long.
We have adopted a rust-preventive packaging system jointly developed by "Zelast," a global brand of vapor-phase rust-preventive film, and "DR Strings." Rust forms when condensation—water droplets created by the cooling of water vapor—adheres to a metal surface, creating an uneven electrical potential. This triggers an electrochemical reaction that leads to rust formation.
The new packaging features an inner envelope treated with a vapor-phase rust inhibitor. This rust inhibitor gradually vaporizes at room temperature and dissolves into the water vapor in the air, which is the cause of rust. This rust-inhibiting component suppresses the potential difference on the string surface, thereby inhibiting electrochemical reactions and preventing rust.
The rust-preventive effect lasts as long as the strings remain in the "Zelast" packaging (for at least 3 years when stored indoors). Once the contents are removed from the Zelast packaging, the rust-preventive agent adhering to the strings will re-evaporate within approximately 2 hours. Unlike oils, it evaporates quickly, does not affect the sound or the surface of the strings, and is completely harmless to humans, delivering exceptional rust-preventive performance.
