This is a Distortion Plus manufactured around 1980!
It was a truly remarkable MXR product for its time, featuring a groundbreaking, compact, and exceptionally sturdy die-cast case, along with dramatically extended battery life. Its simple controls—just Drive and Level—made it versatile for any amp or guitar type. The sound, which allowed for easy expression of picking nuances, was initially welcomed more by fusion musicians than rock musicians.Turning down the guitar's volume also yields a warm yet edgy distortion. Its slightly fuzzy, coarse, dry-textured distortion—truly a 1970s hard rock sound—is particularly noteworthy. Legendary guitarist Randy Rhoads reportedly sought precisely this kind of sound. Its appearance also differs from earlier and current models, featuring a textured, grainy case surface.Compared to current models, the low end is emphasized, giving the sound a characteristic warmth typical of this era. Furthermore, the amount of distortion changes in direct response to the guitar's volume knob, allowing it to be used with a feel indistinguishable from plugging directly into an amp.
